Board Policy
Each institution in the Colorado State University System (“CSUS”) has a Student Code of Conduct that notifies students, faculty, and staff of the specific expectations each CSUS institution sets forth to govern student behavior and the rights and responsibilities of students and student organizations. Each institution, through the Student Code of Conduct, expects students to maintain standards of personal integrity and to be responsible for their actions. Also, students are expected to observe federal, state, and local laws, as well as university regulations and policies.
Procedures
- The Board approves each CSUS institution’s Student Code of Conduct.
- Minor revisions or updates to an institution’s existing Student Code of Conduct may be approved by the President of an institution, in consultation with the CSUS Chief Academic Officer and the Office of General Counsel. If there are exigent circumstances compelling an immediate revision to the Student Code of Conduct, the Chancellor may approve such revision and will promptly inform the Board of the needed change.
- Substantive revisions of an institution’s Student Code of Conduct must be approved by the Board of Governors. Before presentation to the Board of Governors for consideration, a revised Student Conduct Code must be approved by the institution’s President, in consultation with the CSUS Chief Academic Officer and the Office of the General Counsel, and it must also be approved by the Chancellor.
- The Provost and Vice President of Student Affairs for each CSUS institution will periodically confer with the CSUS Chief Academic Officer about the Student Conduct Code to evaluate and discuss potential revisions.
