Board Policy
In recognition of the value of student governments as essential components of the educational experience provided to students, enabling them to learn by doing the skills necessary to good citizenship, and to provide the vehicle to facilitate student participation in the governance of the campuses, the Board authorizes the organization and operation of campus student governments in accordance with the following policies and procedures.
Procedures
The student government association on each campus must have a written constitution.
- The constitution and revisions to it require the approval of the campus President and ratification by the student senate.
- The constitution must include a policy, process, and procedures for allocating student activity fee revenue to recognized student clubs and organizations, if the campus has an approved student activity fee and recognized student clubs and organizations; and a publications board or commission to oversee student publications without infringing upon First Amendment rights.
- Student governments must adhere to applicable state and federal laws and regulations, Board Policies, and campus policies and regulations in the conduct of their affairs.
- The campus Presidents ensure the opportunities and venues for campus student governments to participate in discussions concerning tuition and fee proposals and other campus governance matters.
- As stipulated by state statute and in Article II of the Board Bylaws, the campus student government designates a student as a campus Advisory Member of the Board.
